SS-31 is a mitochondrial-targeting molecule. It interacts with cardiolipin to reactivate ischemic mitochondria. At the same time, SS-31 is also a cell-penetrating peptide.

                SS-31 is a small molecule composed of four amino acids. In vivo, SS-31 targets the inner membrane of mitochondria and can prevent oxidative damage to neurons and other cell types; prevent mitochondrial depolarization, reduce islet cell apoptosis, increase islet cell yield, and improve post-transplantation function.
